Mark Ain offers guidance and operational insights to Castile portfolio companies, drawing on over three decades of experience navigating the challenges faced by growing businesses, and on a deep familiarity with the software industry. Mr. Ain has been a close friend of Castile since the firm's foundation, and his current charter expands on an informal advisory role that has developed over a number of years. Mark serves on the board of directors of Castile company North End Technologies.
Mr. Ain founded Kronos (NASDAQ: KRON) in 1977 and as CEO led it to become one of the world's most successful software companies. Under his leadership, Kronos sustained one of the longest records of growth and profitability in the software industry and earned the reputation as the market leader in workforce management. In June 2007, Kronos was acquired by the private equity firm Hellman & Friedman Capital Partners in a transaction valued at approximately $1.8 billion. Including the proceeds of its 1992 initial public offering, Kronos had raised a total of only $19 million in funding. In 2005, Mr. Ain transitioned from CEO to become Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, a position in which he continues to serve.
Mark has a BS in electrical engineering from MIT, and an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester. Mark is also a Director for several public and non-profit companies: KVH Industries; LTX Corporation; National Board of American Electronics Association (AeA); Mass. High Tech Council; SpaceClaim Corporation; Walker Home & School; YMCA of Boston; Board of Trustee member, University of Rochester; and Simon School Executive Advisory Committee, University of Rochester.
